Facing extremely hot and humid conditions, the Lemont Table Hockey
League fired up the Stiga sets for a Week 9 that drew seven brave
souls to the Pytlewski Arena in Lemont, IL. The sign posted on the
fence warned all comers that the barn would be en fuego tonight. The
guys braved the oppressive conditions to play a double round-robin.
Emerging victorious was Jim Rzonca, who ran the table to go 12-0.
Eric Krol had him down 3-1 with two minutes left, but couldn't seal
the deal and lost 4-3. Garry Butler also played Rzonca tight in their
first contest. Scott Pytlewski went 9-3 to finish second, losing once
to his longtime friend Will Sundwall in an upset. Butler and Krol
were both 6-5 heading into their last game. Krol blinked, losing 4-2
to Sundwall, who started 0-6 after the first round but came back to
finish 3-9. Butler downed Jerry Pytlewski in the evening's final game
to finish 7-5 and take home third. Krol got fourth, finishing at.500
as usual. Jason Walker, eager to get off the schneid, did so by
winning three games and nearly upending Scott Pytlewski in their
second game. Jerry Pytlewski won his first two games for the second
week in a row, but couldn't sustain the momentum. The league will be
taking a much-deserved week off next week and will resume play on
Saturday, Aug. 3.
Once again, everyone who showed got a point, and the top four
finishers got 3.5 down to 0.5.
