The high temperatures and humidities continue in Chicago, but that
didn't stop eight maniacs from taking the table hockey ice Saturday
night at the Lemont Table Hockey League. Week 10 marked a tuneup for
the big Aug. 10 Jerry Pytlewski Big 54 Open. Everyone is invited to
celebrate Commissioner Pytlewski's 54th birthday. Plaques for the top
finishers, and for the first person to score 54 goals on the evening.
Pierre is scheduled to come in from Montreal and Bernie from
Kitchener for what promises to be the best night of LTHL action all
season. But first, we had to make it through some tough competition
tonight. Jim Rzonca cruised to a first-place finish with a 12-2
record, his only losses coming in his first game to Mike Lisowski 9-4
and a later 3-1 defeat to Scott Pytlewski. Rzonca was golden the rest
of the night, however. Scott P. was right behind him though,
finishing 11-3 to take second place and the three points it brought
with it. The Great Lisowski ended up 10-4 after taking off July.
Garry Butler took fourth with a 7-7 record. He defeated Eric Krol 10-
1 in the last game of the night, with fourth place on the line. Krol
was sitting pretty at 6-4 after defeating Lisowski, but dropped his
final four games including one to 11-year-old Matt Soukup 3-2 to
bottom out. Bill McDaniel finished 6-8 as well, and made table hockey
history. He called timeout because he thought he spotted some "gook"
on the puck, something that surely has never taken place in table
hockey before. It was one of several incidents that caused a stir as
tempers rose a little with the hot temperatures. Things should be
calmer next week as we welcome the visiting Canadians and hopefully a
record turnout.
